Eyebrows 101

Who knew back in the day when we were over tweezing, that eyebrows would become the "thing" in days to come.  If we only knew...

Here is a short Eyebrows 101 with some basics to help if you are working towards having perfect brows.

Tweezing a soft natural shape is the goal; eyebrows that are too thick or too thin can take away from the rest of your face.  Follow these steps to create beautiful eyebrows.

1. Draw on the shape you want with an eyebrow or lip pencil, following the natural growth as much as possible. Take your time with this step, repeating it until you get the look you want.

2. Tweeze hairs that fall outside the brow you penciled on. Use rounded or needle-nose tweezers for accurate removal.

3. Brush eyebrow hairs straight up with an old toothbrush.

4. Trim hairs that are too long with a small pair of scissors.

5. To keep brows in place, smooth the hairs with an old mascara wand and then apply brow gel or clear mascara, or spray the mascara wand with hair spray and then comb it through the brows.

We are so lucky to have an array of products on the market now to help us create beautiful brows including brow mascara, brow powders, and eyebrow pomade that come in many different shades.

Where do I begin?

A New Year is upon us. Are you thinking about changing your "look"? If you are like me, a change in makeup is exciting, but I don't want to waste money on products that are not right for me.  Being a certain age- be it 30, 40, 50, or beyond doesn't mean you have to overdo or undo your makeup either.  Regardless of your age, you need to find a makeup style that makes YOU look and feel beautiful.  This means finding colors that enhance your appearance and yes, practicing blending techniques that make it all look natural and smooth instead of contrived and painted on. Color, style, and fashion are all essential elements in clothing, and they are also essential to putting together a great makeup look. The way you see yourself, the way you want to be seen, what you do for a living, what you do in your leisure time, what colors are in your wardrobe, what style of clothing are you comfortable in and how much time you are willing to spend creating a particular "look...

What are you "CONCEALING?"

We normally think of "concealer" as a product to cover blemishes or facial imperfections, as well as dark circles under the eyes, but concealer can also be used to highlight certain areas of the face, especially using lighter colors and textures.  Concealers with thicker consistencies are best for covering problem areas such as dark circles under the eyes or extreme redness on cheeks or noses. Concealers with a lighter or thinner consistency are better for minimal coverage and for highlighting areas of the face that you want to accent.

Unraveling the Mystery of Makeup Brushes

Sure I have used makeup brushes forever, but I wondered, am I using the right one for the right application? I had to do some research on this and here is a brief summary of what I learned. First off, you can buy tons of brushes to help make your makeup application flawless. However, the (5) I am going to talk about are the basic ones to have in your toolbox - I mean Makeup Bag 1.POWDER BRUSH The largest and used to apply loose powder, typically after you apply foundation. It can also double as a tool for blending makeup. 2.BLUSH BRUSH A bit smaller and not as full as the POWDER BRUSH.  Use it to apply cheek color powder (blush or bronzer). This is a good one to use to apply contour color too. 3.LARGE EYE SHADOW BRUSH Great for applying lighter eye shadow pigments - better with firm bristles to give you more control over placement and less drop-off. 4.MEDIUM EYE SHADOW BRUSH Ideal for applying darker eye shadow pigments- also better with firm bristles for better ...
